Town Board Approves $2.5M Walkability Project, Sets January Election

NY NEW LEBANON — Supervisor Tistrya Houghtling and board advance $2.5M walkability initiative for Routes 20 and 22. The Town Board unanimously authorized the Walkability Improvements Project, estimated at $2.499 million and funded by $499,830 in town bonds and a New York State Department of Transportation TAP grant up to $1,999,316. The project will construct approximately 6,066 linear feet of pedestrian pathways with crosswalks, beacons, sidewalks, and raised medians.
Voters will decide the bond resolution at a special election set for January 21, 2025. Councilmember Craig Skerkis abstained from the final environmental review, citing safety concerns about pedestrian traffic on the busy roads.
