NY NEW LEBANON — New Lebanon expands Walkable Downtown project to Shatford Park in anticipation of state funding. The committee agreed to extend its pedestrian-improvement project in response to a New York State Department of Transportation request. New members Tara Jacobsen and Nancy Eos joined the committee, which discussed rectangular rapid-flashing beacons (estimated $20,000 to $30,000 per unit) and pedestrian refuge islands for mid-block crossings.
Member Steve Powers supported beacon installation, citing their effectiveness in nearby Hancock, Massachusetts, while the town's Transportation Alternatives Program application specifies a maximum $500,000 local funding match.
