NY NEW LEBANON — New Lebanon CAC pursues conservation easement for Shaker Swamp. The Conservation Advisory Committee unanimously voted to advance a Conservation Easement Area recommendation for Shaker Swamp and Knob and Bog, tasking Peg Munves with preparing a proposal for town board approval. In parallel coordination with Parks and Recreation, the CAC is transitioning its plant-maintenance duties at the local park to the Rec Committee, with CAC members assisting but no longer in the lead role.
The committee is working with New York State Department of Health on multiple water-protection initiatives: four tests this week detected a downgrade spill in Springs with no fuel contamination indication, the state submitted a stream-assessment solicitation for Kinderhook and Wyomanock Creeks and Shaker Swamp, and the CAC is collaborating with Columbia County Soil and Water District on agricultural runoff.
